Mass Effect 2 Dowloadable Content on Launch Day

Today, Bioware issued a press release announcing that downloadable content (“DLC”) will be available for both the Xbox 360 and PC when Mass Effect 2 is released on January 26th.  The content will include new missions and in-game items and introduce a new character, Zaeed, “a rugged and deadly gun-for-hire who is recruited to join Commander Shepard’s mission to save mankind.”  The content will be free for those who use the single-use code included in the retail and digital versions of the game.   Those who purchase the game used, however, will have to purchase a new activation code to access the content.  Bioware did not announce, however, how much those codes would cost.

Bioware also announced that some time after launch, another DLC  pack would introduce the Hammerhead, a hover tank with improved handling.  Bioware indicates that the tank is “a necessity for players traveling across harsh planetary environments throughout the galaxy.”  Although Bioware did not specify, this announcement appears to hint that the hover tank will be required to access certain portions of the universe.  Bioware also indicated that it will release additional missions and in-game items, including Cerberus Assault Armor, “which boosts shields, health and heavy weapon ammo” and the M-22 Eviscerator Shotgun.  Bioware did not indicate whether the DLC packs subsequent to launch would be free or available for purchase.
