IGN is reporting that Nintendo Australia has confirmed that new installments in two of Nintendo’s banner franchises — Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M — will be released between June and August of this year. Although I would not be surprised if Super Mario Galaxy 2 hit this summer because, after all, its predecessor hit store shelves in 2007. However, we only first heard word of Metroid: Other M at E3 last year. And given Nintendo’s normal pacing between major titiles, it would be quite a pleasant surprise indeed if both hit this year. As IGN points out, if both games are released this summer, that leaves a gap of major releases for the holiday season this year. Could we possibly get the new Zelda installment for the Wii this year too (even though we have only seen concept art for the game so far)? Or is there something completely unexpected in store for us?
